Fitzroy Island
Fitzroy Island is situated approximately 25 kilometres from Cairns and is a continental type Island that is made up of 324 hectares of Rainforest and is almost completely surrounded by Coral Reef. The Island is the third most northerly Island in The Great Barrier Reef.
On Fitzroy Island there are Butterflies, Sheoak, Indian Beech, Native Nutmeg, Tamarinds, Turpentine as well as native Orchids which are just a few examples of the exotic flora and fauna you'll come across on the bushwalks through the Rainforest. There are also walking tracks that include a very steep climb up to the lighthouse with a magnificent view. Snorkelling and Diving just offshore can also be enjoyed, along with lazing in the Queensland sun on the Golden Sand or beside the Cool waters of the Island pool.
The Island has a variety of Accommodation styles from a Camp ground through to Hostel-style Units accommodating a number of people in bunks to Up-market Villa Units. There is a Restaurant, BBQ facilities and they have not long ago included a Night-Club where not only residents of the Island come to mix but also people on the mainland take a boat trip over for a Evening of Fun and Frivolity.
