DUNK ISLAND

Dunk Island is situated about 60 kilometres North of Townsville and 120 kilometres South of Cairns. Dunk Island would have to be the best known of Australia's Tropic Isles, which makes up part of the Family Group of Islands and is considered the most Tropical on The Great Barrier Reef in terms of it's vegetation.

The Dunk Island Resort is one of the largest developments on any of the local Islands and is heavily promoted and most popular with southern visitors and overseas tourists, not forgetting to mention the Locals seeing as though it is only a hop, skip and jump from the mainland and a wonderful place in which to "Get Away From It All".

Most of the Island is National Park and therefore a birdwatchers paradise and of course the home of the glorious Ulysses Butterfly which is the Islands symbol and a vision that should not be missed as the stunning blue of the butterfly's wings sails past you. Just off Dunk Island there is Beaver Cay from where you can Dive, Snorkel, or view the amazing and colourful coral gardens and marine life from the haven of a glass bottomed boat or semi-submersible boat. Fishing in and around the Island is fantastic and you can charter boats in order to "Catch The Big Ones" which can include the ever popular and plentiful "Coral Trout", "Red Emperor", 'Sweet Lip" and the Great fighting fish, "Trevally".
