Termites

Termites are the most destructive of the pests we have here in the Far North. They literally cause hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage to homes and businesses each year.

More commonly known as white ants these small creatures are hard to detect as they live and breed within the cavities of buildings and houses. Termite infestation is usually recognised by the damage they have already caused. Periodically checking alleviates the need for costly repairs in the future.

Unlike other pests, they remain virtually undetected until the damage has already been done.
Termites not only damage wooden structures within your home but also electrical wiring which could lead to short circuits or even fires.

Cockroaches

In Far North Queensland you will find cockroaches predominantly everywhere. Due to the Tropical nature of the environment you will find that cockroaches are found all year round. Cockroaches do pose a severe health risk to humans as they spread diseases such as food poisoning, salmonella and dysentery. They are scavengers by nature and will eat a variety of substances and are mostly found in food preparation areas and warm, dark moist places such as under benchtops and drains.

Rodents

Rats and mice do more damage than provide a life threatening risk. Rats are still known to carry diseases. Rats are like rabbits in that they are prolific breeders and can the female and have as many as several hundred in one year! Most of the damage done by rats are structural in that the gnaw at walls and wiring.

Rat poison is not recommend for household use as it does pose a dangerous threat to young children and family pets. The main disadvantage of rat poison is that once the rat has eaten the poison it will take several hours or days for the poison to take effect and in that time it could die somewhere in your home making it inaccessible - but leaving a putrid odour as you try to locate it.

Ants

Ants do not pose any immediate threat to humans and are in most cases just plain annoying. Ants live in colonies and travel back and forth taking food back to the nest. As we all know all ants are fond of sweet substances. To effectively combat ants you will need a constant eradication program.
